Tankette’s Rambles

Same story, different boss

Our guild really struggled last night but we made it into SSC. We went in only 21 people and some of those were undergeared and some had never been to SSC. We typically go in with 4 or 5 tanks but this time we only had 3.

We found that 3 was enough for the trash. On one group of mobs our pally tank went down so me and the other warrior tank had to handle it. We survived. On another pull I went down. Again, we survived. With each pull we got better to where by the end it felt like we were a solid raid group once again. Then we got to Lurker.

Several things made Lurker tough. For me, the first thing is I was MT since our guild’s MT retired. I had MT’ed Lurker once before but I can’t say I had the job down. I tried to tank by staying in the water the whole time. The healers kept having LOS issues. Another big problem was the people that hadn’t been to the Lurker fight before, and as important, the guild hadn’t been in SSC in 3 weeks so others were rusty.

We wiped at 90% the first time. There is too much story of what went wrong to write about. The second attempt we got to maybe 70%. The third attempt the same. The fourth attempt we got to 50%. We got the LOS healing issues resolved for me. We got other assignments worked out.

So the 5th attempt, I think we were finally going to be in synch and Lurker was going to fall. I have no doubt he would have dropped with just our 21 man raid. LOL, 4 veteran raiders logged on all within about 30 seconds of each other. Within 2 minutes they were all Lock summoned and buffed. Now we had a solid 25 man raid AND the fight was now fresh and we all knew what to do. Lurker went down easy. I don’t even think we had a single death.

It felt almost as good as the first time we dropped Lurker. We are overcoming the set back of losing a bunch of raiders in our guild. Each day we get a little stronger. Undergeared guildies get a little more gear. New people are applying to the guild. Old veteran raiders are logging in more often. It wont be long before we are back to full speed again.

  1. Great to hear you are turning it around. One step at a time, keep a positive attitude. Don’t rush recruitment though. Make sure to keep getting people with good attitudes.

  2. You can fix people’s gear, specs, playstyles, but never their attitudes. If you have a team that’ll stick it through to the end, that’s a great base for raiding excellence.
