Kael

We gave our best against Kael last night but came up short. I think we made 6 attempts. We got to where everything was under control through phase 3 but then couldn’t handle Kael himself in phase 4. I couldn’t manage to stay alive due to mis-timing the use of the shield or just not getting enough heals.

On out best attempt we got him to 19%. I was down but we had 3 tanks still up when it went to phase 5. None of them could hold aggro though so Kael just kept one-shotting player after player in between the anti-gravity spells. I really don’t know how you are supposed to build up any threat when you are floating around the room.

Oh well, I am pretty confident he will go down on Sunday.

You’re not. By the same token, your dps shouldn’t be doing any damage either.

  2. Thanks Namthe. I learned that the hard way last night.

We still couldn’t get Kael down last night after several tries. We got better at the first 3 phases to where we still had a full raid going into phase 4. I had a hard time staying a live in phase 4 but made it into phase 5 three times. People getting mind controlled was the worst problem, I think. Our dps warriors were killing clothies in 2 hits before we could get them out of the mind control. Blizz buffing everyone’s dps makes getting mind controlled a bigger problem.

  3. have someone assigned to dagger the appropriate mind controlled person. (We used an Arms warrior). This will help to quickly break the MC.

  4. We had a lot of fun downing Kael last week with some similar problems. In particular, we’d lose a healer to the first nasty fireball he shoots and then our tank had problems moving out of the flame circle on the ground. We actually had a Balance druid end up tanking him, thanks in part to the glory that is Pain Suppression. Between that, Power Word: Shield, and further damage reductions from the Discipline tree, she managed to tank for the eight seconds or so needed to take him down!

We typically have every person who is capable of equipping a dagger with one for that exact reason — especially post Patch-3.0.2! The only problem is that you need to make sure that the people wielding the daggers know not to use a strong attack against a Mind Controlled person. We had a couple of incidents where people used strong instant attacks in their haste that killed fellow raiders!

  5. It took us a lot more attempts than I expected but we finally got Kael down. Having better timing on using the shield kept me alive through the pyroblasts. We had all the hunters on mind control duty, which worked much better too.
