Which of these bosses are the toughest?

Filed under: Uncategorized — tankette @ 4:57 pm

I have no idea how to do a poll thingie so just give me your comments, if you would.

Our guild has now downed 4 T5 bosses: Hydross, Lurker, Leo and Voidreaver. I am curious to know how people would rank these 4 bosses in order of difficulty, with 1 being the hardest and 4 being the easiest.

Second part, there are 3 bosses that could be next on our guild’s hit list. We haven’t made any attempts on them at all: Morogrim Tidewalker, Solarian and Alar. How would you rank those 3 in order of difficulty?

Thanks for your input. What you say may have an impact on the progression of our guild. 🙂

  1. My guilds approximately in the same place as you. We’ve downed those 4, Tidewalker and Al’ar. Hopefully we’ll be downing Solarian tonight after doing 3 attempts on him last night for the first time ever. (Last try we got him down to 35%)

Out of the four you’ve downed so far I’d say the difficulty is: (1=hardest)
    1: Leo
    2: Hydross
    3: Void Reaver
    4: Lurker

Of the three you listed about going to next I’d say the difficulty is: (1=hardest)
    1: Al’ar
    2: Solarian
3: Tidewalker (if you have a good pally tank else swap 2&3)

  2. Thanks Blithlyle. Your ranking pretty much agrees with how my guild is thinking. I personally find Hydross harder than Leo but then Hydross has given me fits with the transitions.

It looks like we are going after Tidewalker on Sunday. The fight looks simple for me as MT.

  3. Difficulty in ascending order? That’s a hard question to answer because each of those fights have quirky little phases or transitions or something that can result in a single person causing a wipe. However, I’d have to go with Lurker, Hydross, Void Reaver, and then Leotherass. Lurker’s a cake and has no enrage timer; Hydross is very simple if the transitions are handled well; Void Reaver is difficult if people can’t stay alive; and Leotherass has the timer issue and the tank management aspect with repeated aggro dumps.

For the bosses that you’re going up next? I’d advise Solarian, Tidewalker, and then Al’ar. Solarian is a very simple fight if you can avoid blowing up your fellow raiders and healing through her Arcane Missiles; Tidewalker is a bit of a challenge regarding how you handle the murlocs, but setting up the boss at a nice ‘n’ easy spot will allow you little problems (unless your paladin tank gets dumped into the Watery Graves, but you can still adapt to that); and in every raid I’ve been in Al’ar has been the most difficult fight of the initial three bosses in The Eye. The first phase is always very easy, but staying alive long enough to avoid the enrage timer during the second phase usually hurts. Not to mention add control and healing in that fight.

  4. In order of difficulty, I’d probably place Lurker as easiest, followed by Void Reaver. Of the other two, I’d probably say Hydross was the easier of the two, leaving Leo as the most.

In terms of next fight to do, I’d agree that it should be Solarian. She’s dead easy so long as your raidmembers know to run away when they get the debuff.

Tidewalker’s similarly easy, but requires a bit more thought with respect to raid placement.

Al’ar’s horrific the first few times you tank it, especialy if you’re on add duty during phase 2 – you can get thrown all over the place, chasing phoenixes, it’s a a bit nasty. I found it a huge relief when I moved up a little in the guild and started MTing more fights, including Al’ar.

One thing that might help you with it, though, is to have a tank specifically for taking the Molten Armor debuff. He taunts off the MT 57 seconds into the fight, and then every time Molten Armor fades, and the MT then taunts back as soon as the debuff is applied again. It works very well for us.

  5. I’ve not tanked any of these, but while I was progressing on another character the guild more or less agreed with Blithlyle’s order. I’ve found Leo significantly harder than A’lar because one screwup wipes the raid, and the demons can be hard for both tanks/healers and softie DPS. A’lar is some legwork for the tanks but mostly tank&spank for the raid. OK, and move out of the fire… Tidewalker is mainly about having a good pally tank.
